Abstract

Indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North of Russia are the social group in which the use of the rich experience of previous generations plays a special role. The issues connected with using these peoples’ traditions to prevent crime areconsideredin the article. The possible positive changes in the crime rate and the dynamics of illegal behavior, as well as the predicted difficultiesare analyzed. The peculiarities of living in the Far North are revealed, the mentality of its inhabitants
has been studied. The author of the article draws attention to the fact that the traditions, being a regulator of social relations among indigenous peoples of the North, play a significant positive role in
the prevention of crime. It is concluded that using the potential of national traditions in the process of crime prevention meets the goals and objectives of criminology.
