Abstract

The study of the problems concerning the investigation of the natural gas thefts is one of the urgent problems of modern forensic science, including the development of criminalistics characteristics of such acts. The article reveals the importance of criminalistic characteristics in the private methods of investigating the criminal act, its influence on the efficiency of solving the thefts of natural gas from a gas pipeline. The purpose of the article is to develop the recommendations for improving
the standard methods of investigation of stealing natural gas from a gas pipeline, basing on the analysis of criminalistic characteristics. The methodology of the conducted research is based on the analysis
of scientific literature and law enforcement practice. The criminalistic characteristics of the analyzed crime consists of: the object of criminal encroachment, the preparation for the commission of a crime,
the method of committing a criminal act, specific types of trace materials, the circumstances of the crime and the identity of the offender. Non-standard nature of the object of criminal encroachment
determines no less specific ways and circumstances of crime commission. In most cases, unauthorized tapping into gas pipeline is carried out by the owners of illegally gasified housing by improvised means. The author of the article comes to the conclusion that the criminalistic characteristics of natural gas theft helps the investigation bodies to formulate the organizational and tactical peculiarities of the
investigation of unauthorized tapping into gas pipeline.
